You could just use a MK1 Rad, has been done with valvers before.

That is an old pic of my radiator setup and it cools just fine. I have driven it all over the place with scorching heat and have never had one problem.

so the mk1 topfill cools the engine fine? I presume its an early top fill from a mk1 1.6 GLS/GTI?

    Cheers

Hi i have bought a bmw rad but was unsure about connecting the hoses up for my mk2 2.0 8v (pb head/2E bottom end) they seem to have some screw type of connection. also if you look at the bottom of the water tank there is another hole but i dont know where to connect this to as the mk2 rad only had 2 conections. any ideas?

those bmw rads arent stricktly speaking topfill rads

a better name would be a rad with an integrated expansion tank as the two parts arent actually connected internally.

the hole on the right of the photo is the inlet, the one on the left is the outlet

the outlet on the bottom of the bottle (next to the blue bleed screw) is where the water will be drawn from, so you could attach your old header tank hose to there, or get a hose and T it into one of the other water pipes

You can`t block it off! Else where do you think the coolant would go...as said; it`s the expansion feed into the system and needs tee-ing to the top hose.

Yeah you couldn't block it off mate, as I said the two parts arnt connected internally so if you blocked it it would just be like using a normal rad and you would still need to use the stock header tank...
