yes white plug for lighter, blue plug goes into the fusebox. if you wanted you could strip out the mk2 ciggy/radio/blower wiring from the blue plug then adapt and fit the mk3 one in its place ;)

dont need it, thats for blower, radio, ciggy lighter connection to fusebox. i.e., you already have one ;)

Hot diggety! Found the jumper block! I remember now, finding it on the floor of the car and popping back on the fusebox, what stroke of foresightedness :)

Now everything is together and labelled up I shall list what goes where as far as I understand it now.

    From VAGCOM port
red/white is live and splices into live of cigarette lighter
brown is earth and splices into earth of cigarette lighter
yellow and grey are connected to the same plug and go to the jumper block

    From Immobiliser box
Thick black is earth and goes to a convenient bodywork earthing point
Thin black is ignition live and is removed from green connector and put into a spare hole the back of Mk2 D plug on back of fuse box
    grey goes to jumper block
grey/white connects to matching plug coming from the ECU

Picture of jumper block and black pin out of green plug
    IMG_20210917_133139508_HDR.jpg

    Now, one last question.
What does the jumper block do? Is it supposed to have other wires going into it? Are all the pins connected and therefore linking the grey and yellow wires and the grey wire?

yep all correct. if you look at your D plug you'll probably find a black wire with empty plug housing hanging out of it, the E plug pin will fit there.

the jumper block is there to allow many different things that require diagnostics to plug into the same block and get a connection to the port, this way the looms are all removable. things like ABS and airbags

    Thanks, that's great.
So are there any other wiring changes I need to make from this point?

Do I need to make any changes to the engine loom or is it just a case of wrapping it and plugging it in to F, G1 and G2 now? (Are there already plugs in those ports that I will need to swap wires from on the Mk2?)

the next step once cleaned down is lay it out next to the old loom. transfer wiper wiring and bulkhead gromets over, add ignition loom. fiddle with the mk3 wire routing so it runs liek a factory mk2. the mk3 ecu loom goes thru hole on passenger side, ecu in middle. mk2 goes thru hole in middle, ecu driver side. with a bit of tweaking you can make it route like a mk2, but you end up with a fair bit of excess behind fusebox, which I trim off and re-terminate with new pins. you can try to loop it back on itself then tape

or you could put the ecu plug thru the mk2 wiper hole, and make some kind of bracket to hold ecu in the middle. if you have the mk3 bracket base it off that, or the basic way is velcro strips  theres plenty of room under the wiper linkage

Thanks John. Don't forget ours is a 1.3 carb. That must mean very little engine loomage to worry about?

yeah, you use the old one for reference on the routing thats all, plus you need wiper loom as mk3 one is too short plus ignition loom if you want to convert back to mk2 coil and spark module (optional)

Work began in earnest today. Gearbox back on and cam belt and tensioner changed. One crank shaft pulley bolt wouldn't budge and eventually the socket head rounded off. Hammered a spline bit into the hole and thankfully that was enough to get it undone  New set ordered.
Front engine mount, that @dodgy gave us (thanks Mate ;) ), fitted although I did have to weld this bracket back on which supports a metal pipe of some description.

Tomorrow we hope to get the old engine out.

Thank you. So it can be removed since I'm not using the Mk2 coil at the moment.
