    Good evening gents,

I have a 1997 MKIII 1.4 Polo automatic that has only done 44k and has some VW service history.

The gear change is awful and doesn't change until it reaches 3,000 - 3,500. However, there is no lack of power.

Could anyone give me any tips on what to look for please?

The engine actually has one of the nicest tick overs of all my previous cars!

    Thanks to all. :)

When should it/do you, expect it to upshift?

Personally (in a manual) I tend to shift around that mark. Certainly its rare I'll shift below 3000rpm.

Stu, I generally change manuals around 2,000. This car feels ready to change at this RPM also but doesn't.

There is no problem downshifting though!
