    Hello,
My name is Sam and i have just turned 17 and for my birthday i got a 2 door, 1.4L Polo 6n (1998). The car is totally rust free so all work is cosmetic.
The car does need quite a bit of work but it is a project for me to do with help from my dad. Luckily my dad works in a body shop so we have all the tools and facilities we need to do it.

We got it off a woman who from the state of it had abused it!
The interior was filthy, everything was sticky and dirty. The paint work hadn't been looked after as you can see from the pictures and from what we gather has had an accident but nothing serious. Something had hit the left rear side of the tailgate/rear quarter and there is a dent in the rear quarter and has had a new tailgate fitted but none of the wiring loom was fitted into the new tailgate, there's no key so i can only open from the inside of the car, and no central locking mechanism so i cannot even open it with the rest of the car.

    What the car needs:

    Important things:
    A respray,
New Grille and bonnet as there is a nasty dent in that on the drivers side,
A new Gear Linkage as it is hard to get into reverse and 3rd,
Door rubbers, the rubbers are perished,
A new left hand side window mechanism as that doesn't work.
Central Locking mechanism for the boot, and a matching key for the lock.

    Not so important things:
A boot cover, the one that hides all the lock and everything for the inside,
A rear wiper arm, the whole thing!
    Glove box cover.

This is all we have found so far from having a look around.

When i got home and started to have a look at things the first thing i done was wire up all the wiring loom and get everything to work, obviously without the central locking mech i couldnt do that but i got the heated rear window to work and things like that. Its a start and still a long way to go!

Here are some pictures of what she looks like.

The first thing you probably noticed was the paint on the headlight, god knows why that is there, a very poor attempt at a repair/respray. And also the terrible paint!

Then from the back you can see the damage, the rear quarter will need to be sorted but I'm sure my dad wont mind sorting that out! obviously you can notice the different tailgate.

There was literally crap everywhere! This is just one foot well.

Then in the center console god only knows what that stuff was but it was hard and orange!
Then the cleaning started! I took the seats out and then started to hoover.

This is when Henry wouldn't suck up anymore but still, looks a lot better than when we started.

I will keep this updated with whats going on and as things start to progress.
I would love it if any advice was given it would be much appreciated. And any spare parts any one has which they are willing to part with would also be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Sam

We have found a 2nd hand front panel, new N/S wing and a bonnet so far
He needs an O/S front wing to complete the front damage repair
    Also needed are
    Glovebox/lid
    Rear C/L motor for tailgate
    new exhaust
some 14" wheels and tyres (G60 steels 14"? ) All 4 tyres are shot and there is no point replacing the 145 biscuit tin lids, better to go with a different set
    L/F window regulator (electric)
I'm sure more is needed but thats what come to mind right now

    Hey Sam,
That is the same as one of my first cars. The 1.4 is quite nippy and fun to drive.
I imagine your Dad will have access to a nice carpet cleaner!

    Steve,

G60 steels are 15". The steels from a Mk3 Golf diesel look similar but are 14",
or for a slightly different steel wheel in 14" looks for the wheels from a Mk2 Golf Driver or equivalent Jetta
