Yes my first Golf MK2 was a 1.8 Driver, so I know very well about carburettor problems. That was the car that forced me to start learning how to fix problems myself, as not a single garage I took it to figured out that it had a carb icing problem.

I'm leaning towards the idea of getting a diesel now, to be honest!

French diesel is what you want. Citreon AX 1.5D. Slow but you fill the tank up and it will run forever (seems like it) and you can buy them for under 500. Sorted

Another thing I thought about was LPG. But I don't know anything at all about LPG.

I did a search for 'LPG' on Autotrader and much to my surprise I found a Golf MK2 that had been converted to use it:

Yeah, yeah... automatic :( but besides that could this be something worth looking at?

That Astra looks like an excellent work horse!

For a 500 buy it now, cheap as chips!

Avoid an AX, simply a death trap and fall apart!

Trev, I live in Newbury and near me in Washcommon there's a white 'M' reg Seat Toledo 1.9 TDI on 125k for 795, but I know its been there for some time so you could easily knock him down for 600 cash easy.

I used to live in Newbury!

Wow, that Seat sounds interesting. You don't happen to have his contact details do you...? I'll have a look in Adtrader / Autotrader for it now!

    Hang on!! Is this it?

Green seat toledo 1. 9 td, 1993. Good runner, reliable, ew, pas, em, s/ r, mot till May 2006, tax expired, 3 new tyres, new windscreen price ono Tel:
    Price& nbsp;& nbsp; 600.00
    Town&n bsp;&n bsp; Newbury
    Postcode:&nb sp;&nb sp; RG14

That Seat is virtually a Golf MK2 isn't it? I stripped a K-reg Seat Toledo at the scrapyard yesterday and everything was the same as a Golf MK2.

Have a look at here-its called curridge car sales.

I've looked at this car closely and it seems ok, but I know its been there for a few months, so you could knock the price to the floor!

Here's the link-go to used cars and its at the bottom.

    Curridge car sales

I think the seat toledo's are the same as the passat/vento that were around the early 1990 periods before the newer shape availiable now.

    G-man,

I've just spoken with the chap selling the Toledo (advert I pasted above). He is not Curridge car sales, though. So is this another one?

The chap I spoke to - name is Tim - says that the mileage is quite low (can't remember what but could have been 115 or something). Said that for the last MOT it had some sill repairs, which worried me a bit but then again it's an L-reg... and I'm not bothered anyway

I knocked him down to 500 quid.

I'm quite tempted, because I'd feel far happier with something that will use the same parts as the Golf - that I'm already familiar with - unlike a Vauxhall which I've never touched before.

Bored me? Never! [:D] Unfortunately I'm stuck in the house getting my bits together to go back to uni and going out for the rest of the afternoon.

Hope the car hunting goes well!
