Hi all, I need to fit a new clutch. I've looked at the GSF website they offer the LUK and Sachs. Is there much difference in quality?..... considering the big price difference. LUK 59 Sachs 117
SACHS everytime.. not that theres anything wrong with LUK.. Never had an issue with a SACHS clutch myself EVER, however know of a couple of people having problems with LUK, 2 VR6 clutches to be exact...
an LUK clutch was put in my golf at 154k miles and its on 217k now and you can imagine how i drive the thing. for half the price id use the LUK one tbh
Id go with Sachs too... The pressure plate in my old 8v LuK replacement clutch was not man enough to cope with the 2L 8v torque Fitting a 16v Sachs pressure plate sorted it
think the sachs kits on gsf are 'sporting' which are a bit over-spec for a std car? either way, sachs kits are the ones to get as they contain everything you need, come with 6 new pressure plate bolts plus spline lube. LUK kits generally just have the pp, friction disc, release plate and nothing else. for cheaper sachs kits, try http://www.vwsonline.co.uk/car_parts_bristol/ and http://www.vwspares.co.uk
Yup - that Sachs one is uprated. If you're planning on keeping the engine standard, I wouldn't bother with it. If you're planning to go 2.0 16v and more mods, it's probably a good move.
Have a VR6 LuK replacement clutch in my mk2 running 300bhp from eurocar parts and I drive the life out of it and its been fine
Thanks for all the advice. Gone for an LUK clutch as I'll be keeping the car standard (ish). I'll try saving money and see if it pays off in the long run.....
That's convinced me. There seems to be no problem getting the power to your wheels. Only cost me 55 (inc. vat) from GSF. Bargain!
the LUK clutch in the quattro rally car lasted 200 miles, the sachs one has lasted almost a 1000, and no i doesnt get rallied, its driven to and from shows
To confuse matters even more a genuine VR6 clutch I got consisted of the following:- Relase bearing and friction plate was SACHS. The pressure plate was LUK. So you figure it out. All items were stamped with VW and part numbers too.
Yep that's correct and if you compare the parts to pattern LUK and SACHS kits you'll see the VAG ones are far supperior - the genuine ones seem to be the only ones that last well in a VR!
