Hi all. I have a 2002 2.0 gti, always used E5 but had to put £10 of E10 in last night, put £15 of E5 in today but with the E10 started to mis-fire and engine light flashing, been to the garage said without plugging it in could be the coil pack playing up,(fuel light was on when I put the E10 in),I might regret this but how much is a coil pack fitted please? Thanks
It looks to be a DIY job and the part is about £35. There are a couple of useful utube vids. Using E10 should not make your car behave like that so it must be a coincidence.
Update, called the AA as didn't want to drive it to the garage mis-firing,AA bod plugged the computer in said mis-fire on cylinder 2.got to take the inlet manifold off to diagnose it then would open a can of worms and lots of £££££ to try and fix it. Hate to think how much it is to fix or could end up scrapping it still got 4 months MOT aswell
Don’t go jumping to the worst conclusions. Misfire could be down to the coil pack. I don’t get why you would need to take the manifold to diagnose before you have investigated the external possibilities.
AA man said he can't get to the coil pack leads or spark plug without taking the inlet off, couldn't do any more outside the house take it to the garage.the garage said have to take the inlet off aswell to diagnose it
Yes sorry, either way could be expensive, garage said take it apart replace the coil pack put it back together and then it might not start after all that, drove just over a mile to get home, garage said could be compression issues
Is it individual coil packs or a combined one? Can you just swap one to see if coil if misfire moves with it? May be a plug even possibly.
Combined coil pack,AA man said can't get to cylinder 2 without taking it apart and couldn't do it roadside to check plug lead or coil pack
upper half of the inlet is only a couple allen heads and some support bracket bolts, really isnt a big deal. but heres a vid showing how to remove plugs without pulling the inlet:
Will finally get time to try and swop the plugs tomorrow Is it easy enough to get the electrical connector off,be easier if it was out the way?
Hi Phil Was going to try the plugs first, being honest not got the funds at the moment to do the coil not attempted replacing a coil before
injector plug, you need to squeeze the tab on the left of the pic to release the lock clip. sometimes they can fight you, plus it can help to push the plug down slightly so the clip isint under tension to the peg on injector if that makes sense
Thank you for all your help guys, couldn't get the connector off didn't want to force it (AA said if I took connector off would need to take it to main dealer to be reprogrammed),as I have never took a manifold off or re-sealed done a coil before, had to take it to the garage, they said £300 it was £70 coil £40 leads and £30 plugs special iridium plugs apparently ,and pressure test rest is labour. Bit embarrassing really considering the work done from a bare shell to engine work Will put a picture of the manifold tomorrow when she's back all the videos are the manifold all silver mines half silver and black
Just spoke to the garage, changed plug 2 good spark coil pack and leads all good, put new plug in still miss-firing and code come up,he said it's low compression wanted 4 hours labour to take manifold off and do compression test (not done a compression test)and head needs to come off, could be piston or rings, that's done it I think can't afford to get it done and of all the weeks I really need a car
