Hi Phil,think you right gutted tbh,yes it mis-fires but it runs could be a case of how long will it run mis-firing? Get the same scrap running or not.
I've never worked on these engines so sorry if I'm missing something but is he taking you for a ride? From the pictures and videos that intake looks like an hour job to remove tops, then what 30 mins for the compression test? And its knackered it can go straight on the recovery truck and he won't have to charge you for the re-assembly Again sorry if I've missed something but it looks like 2 bolts on the back, 6 or 8 on the front then a few clips and hoses to the side
Hi Nate spoke to 3 different VW garages and specialists all said compression test can be done with manifold left on,garage took it to quoted 4 hours labour (£160) to do it,said not done the test but its definitely low compression either hole in piston,rings or warped head,but no smoke out if the exhaust when running and no oil and water mixing
