Anyone seen these on the end of a Hydraulic Tappet Cam? A mate's just pulled the rocker cover off a car he's bought (2.0 8v Mk1, with a hydraulic head). On the gearbox end face of the cam is stamped GK in an oval (about 5mm High) and H1. It's got 11.3mm of lift. We think it's probably a regrind - anyone got more info?
are you sure its a K kent stamp there cams at that end, I have a had A GS2H however i dont think the GS1 has quite such a lift..
Yup... Every aftermarket cam I've had in my hands has been stamped on that end. I'm wondering if it's a custom job they did for someone (most of the manufacturers will do that if you ask). All the Kent cams I've seen have had "KC GS2H" or something similar stamped on them. Pipers all seem to be BP and the duration number, Newmans have a different nomenclature including the duration, and Schricks have their part number, in a display of ruthless germanic efficiency
GTI Eng used schrick cams on 8v's, but ground the numbers off (you can still see them faintly, normally). Most of the 16v's used KR cams, with Schricks available as an option.
No I don't think so... he doesn't really have much to do with cams, just heads, heads and more heads.
GK was found on a GTI engineering cam I had years ago, and also on a modfied 16v Schrick that was in the classifieds a while back. I think Paul H. might even have the cam now. Check the lobe sizes to see if it's a regrind.
Interesting. Cheers, Mart. It came with a ported head which looks like work from the shed, so could be GTI Engineering in origin.
hmm thats interesting, i was going to pop in and see him to discuss some possible head work, i guess i may need to use the old audi head instead, the problem is its a carb'd head so smaller inlets
