chase any replaced wire sections back till you find the original wire colours. the switch on the head should be blue or brown 0.25-0.3 bar with a blue/black wire. the switch on the filter housing should be a white 1.8 bar with yellow wire. But only go by the wire colours if genuine VW, if pattern need to check the pressure ratings stamped on the side/back. The smaller white sensor on the filter housing is the oil temp sensor for MFA which should have a green/black wire.

My 91 8v mk2 Digifant, with everything working properly..
Sensor on Side of head over gearbox, wire is blue with black stripe.

The bigger sensor, iirc that's the pressure one, on the filter housing, has a yellow wire.

The smaller sensor on the housing, oil Temp iirc, green wire with black stripe.

Easy to remove the sender from the tank to check.

You might have earthing issues near the fusebox too.

Everything was fine until I striped the engine to do oil rings, since then its been a nightmare. I didn't touch anything in side the car only the engine bay.

ok you need to chase all those wires back till you find the original VW colours.

switch on the side of the head should have a blue/black wire, big switch on filter housing should be yellow. small sensor on sensor housing should be green/black. There shouldn't be a wire from the harness to the distributor, that is a suppression earth to cap. you will have 2 brown/white earth wires to the head, once from fusebox and the other from the ecu.

Other issue I can see, a 91 GTI would have a digifant engine but you have a carb/kjet vacuum advance unit on the distributor. Is this a factory installed engine or a swap?
