Pancakes,sponge or socks???

    Im looking to order airfilters for my twin 40's nx wk,but wot do i go for???

    Someone posted a while back saying socks give you crap power?!

    so will it be pancakes or those big sponge boxs you can get (iTG ones i think?!?!)

    wot do i go for?

    sock filters have too little surface area, and flow sh*t SBD measured 20bhp drop on a 200bhp engine using these filters

    you want the biggest elements you can fit, k&ns are ok, make sure you have the ram pipes/trumpets in there too or you can chuck away a load more power, also try to fit some heat shielding so they dont feed off the hot air from the rad.

    or a big airbox with a remote filter is good, like this

    I would suggest building a box around the carb intakes and putting a cone or panel filter on the end of a feed hose. Whatever design you go for I wouldn't put anything on that directly effects airflow into the trumpets. If you do theres no point in having the trumpets as the idea of them is to get as even and clean an air flow into the carbs in the first place.

    You should also be careful of the distance between the main filter/box body and trumpets. You can use this to gain extra hp from pulse reflections but without a RR session the optimum gap will be a guess. You could also hurt hp if the gap doesn't favour the engine characteristics.
