I am stripping my rear beam off the Mk2, everything is covered in grime etc.

I have been toying with a parts washer but have always managed with a bucket, a brush and white spirit.

what are people using? is paraffin better? are they worth the money?

AutoSmart G101. Cleans literally everything from gearbox grime to the kitchen worktop. Safely, too. I even use it on fabric.

that's my worry, I would buy one, and the solution clear a space and use it twice a year!!

although it might be useful for the v6 swap..
