The Glow Plug light started flashing on the way back from dropping the missus to work today...Car still runs fine though!!

    The car is a 2000 W 3 cyl 1.4 TDi Polo...

The book of lies states its a "Diesel management system Fault" & "Take it to the Main Stealers" [xx(]

Just wondering if any boffins might be able to tell me if its a common fault and/or likely to be expensive...before I contact Autotechnik & get it hooked up on the VAG COM..

I thought it might be down to the very cold temperature... [:s]

    Cheers, Chris

Quite possibly the brake light switch faulty. Needs to be plugged in and fault code read though.

My guess is the water seperator needs draining its usually a plasic nut with a drain hole in it on the base of the diesel filter.

I know it says in the Polo 9N manual if the glow plug light flashes there is an engine fault but on the older VW diesels a flashing glow plug light meant the water seperator needed draining and the new VW owners handbooks are crap compared with the old ones, basically telling you to go to the dealership if anything goes wrong.

Probabbly looks like this, its the white plasic thing at the bottom you need to turn till clean fuel flows out.

Must've missed this thread, we get that fault on the Galaxy with VW TDI motor, brake light switch fails and puts on the glo-light

Check the feeds to the switch as well Chris if you haven't already as I've had the brake switch fuse blow before as well.

It does this when the switch fails, but the real intention is to detect that all the brake lamp bulbs have blown. It directs you straight to the steallers 'cause usually it means you've ignored the brake lamp fail warning for quite some time

No problem Mate. :) This is a common
problem with a lot of the late model VW diesels. I believe the switch
now supplied is a modified one. They are relatively cheap IIRC. You'll
still need the lamp putting out I expect.
