Hi there, I'm planning on getting a CAT back exhaust system for my 1997 MK3 GTI 16V ABF.

I want uprated performance, i.e. better flow, etc... ideally twin round tail pipe. But I don't want an intrusive rumble in the cabin or sound like a Scooby.

I've heard Miltek are excellent quality and fitment, but they don't do a proper twin tail pipe.

My friend has a Scorpian exhaust system, with 3 silencers and that's too loud for my liking.

What's everyone else experience with MK3 GTI 16V?

had a few jetex systems on various cars over the years. always seem quieter than the likes of scorpion/magnex. better built too imo.

Agreed just put a 3 box jetex system on mine and it's great , not too noisey but looks good , was 302 for the system and a panel filter from MK1dubzter on ED38 would highly reccomend him.

Supersprint are also supposed to be great quality and quiet too.

Ive just bought a Mk3 16v and was looking into doing this as it came with a booming rear box however after reading a few posts etc the standard one isnt that bad at all.
Ive just put anniversary rear box on my car and I reckon it perfect. Nice and quiet and looks better than the standard one due to the tailpipe trim. Theres a guy on here (Mk3_oxford) who has one for sale.

stick with the standard, as SS exhausts tend to promote noise more than anything else.

Possible bhp gains if you introduce a K&N (or equiv) but not a lot...we're talking less than 5bhp.

If you defo want a SS system, Jetex is the way forward. Lots of folk on this forumwill testify they are the best.

I'll need to get a new cetre box sometime anyway, as theres a slight rust hole developing. Plus I'd like to update the rear exhaust trim at the same time. Sounds like Jetex is the way forward so far.

Anyone with experience with systems from Supersprint, Peco, etc?

Supersprint systems are not SS, so thats the reason why they are not so loud as other systems but the quality is there with Supersprint systems! :)

Cool... I'm just getting more and more jealous now. How are you guys planning on fitting the system? I'd consider doing it myself, but my mate with access to ramps says it'll be too much of a pain doing it on axle stands.

Annoying when they're like that. I paid 30 for a local garage near my work to fit a back box before. Not the best of jobs but worked fine without any problems. Tempting to find a supplier who do free fitting sometimes, like Big Boys Toys, but they don't do Jetex I don't think.
