At least your cylinder head isn't broken! Feel for my car!

There no local CGTi'ers that can help you out with the ign switch? We must all have a local Golf nut that can help out.

Hey Shaz there's not really anybody locally apart from garages!!

However we are moving to Kent in July so I will probably be closer to a higher concentration of Vdubbers or Clubgti'ers!!

    Some thoughts on my misfire??

I have been reading through loads of posts on misfires on the forum and have had the following thoughts.

Is it worth replacing the following:-

    1.) Fuel Filter?

2.) In tank lift pump with a good used or new one?

    3.) Ignition switch?

Also I have been checking around the engine bay, and I noticed that the where the red wire attaches to the starter motor with a spade slide on connector, that the spade on the starter is loose, like it is about to break?? Would this cause a misfire?

    Keep the suggestions coming?

    Cheers Paul (Alpenweiss2):)

    1) may as well, its cheap and easy

    2) pull the plug off the main pump and turn key 1 click, should hear lift pump prime. if not, theres the problem. might be an idea to change it anyway just in case, but generally if it makes a noise its ok. it has a filter on the end which might be blocked tho

    3) to rule this out, run a fused wire from battery +ve to the black wire side of coil after car is started. disconnect it before you turn the car off, otherwise odd things may happen. if car is faultless while this is in place, can be pretty sure ign switch or the coil wiring is to blame.

    4) no, but you should fix it because thats the trigger wire for the starter

another option is to fit mk3 tank, pump, lines and under car filter carrier. this is a job i'll be doing one day. if you bought me the above i could give you my k-jet stuff in return

Cheers Rubjonny for the advice...as ever!!

I will get a new filter ordered and try your suggestion for the pump and ignition switch.

I will also check out the starter motor...think I have a spare in the garage.

    Cheers Alpenweiss2:)
