Remapping question

    Evening all we have got a 17 plate gti with 8k on it bought from a auction house when we took it to vw for a service they told us our drive train warranty is void due to the there machine saying something had been changed from standard so assumes been mapped,how do I find out what’s been done to it
    Can a map damage the car

    For MQB cars, such as the Golf 7 R, Golf GTI etc, if various control systems are is messed with and the vehicle is interrogated with a dealer ODIS tool that is online with the VW server as a warranty query, if the checksum or flash counter in the control unit is not as it should be from the factory, it will be broadcast as specific code and your powertrain warranty will be void.
    There are several codes depending on what has been modified and they are:

    TD1 - Engine ECU modification
    TG1 - Gearbox ECU modification
    TE1 - Power Electronics ECU modification
    TB1 - Tuning box modification
