my pc is quiet old now,,, it is constantly crashing and very slow... i have tried a fresh install afew times(back up disc) but it remains the same...

its had a new hdd a few years ago as that died so i guess the restore isnt from a partition.

is it time for a new pc??? is this hardware issues bits getting tired and old???

its an acer aspire mini pc.running vista premium at least 5yrs old.

    any help?

    thanks Pete

I would try HDDScan and then Memtest+

HDDScan will read the smart data and with a full scan can tell you if you have slow reading sectors. Like a Samsung I RMA'd a while back which had some around and above 500ms [8(]

1 bad sector and 25 on the way you need a new HD if the warranty has run out. Personally I try to stick to Western Digital Black and Red depending on application in 3.5" although this 2.5" dropped used Hitachi 250GB I acquired is doing surprisingly well. I should really run a scan on it myself.

EDIT: Just noticed the McAfee have a look at the SMART data to see if it agrees with the HDDScan results. Ideally it would be better to run HDDScan from a live CD like Hiren's BootCD or bootable USB, but the latter is a lot more work.

I forgot to say the 1TB 3.5" Black drives are not really worth it they're just a Blue with a longer warranty. If its going into semi retirement may as well just get a Blue.
