Hi I’ve noticed that one of the steering column support bolt was lose ,so went to tighten it and it fell out and there is no thread to hold it in , is there meant to be captive nuts ?if so is there anyway of getting to it without taking the clocks and possibly dash out ?

They're usually security screws that the head snaps off of, once they're tightened up.
    But should have a standard m8 thread. 16464336236522791927471047756937.jpg 16464336593717846345800278119119.jpg

A quite fortuitous thread as I need to tighten ours up as the column has some vertical movement which I am sure is not supposed to be there. I hope our threads are OK, unlike yours. However, in answer to your question I’m pretty sure the column bolts are directly into part of the dash frame which is a welded part like this. This is lifted from the MK2 workshop manual. Part one are rubber washers which it seems are only found on a diesel.

The whole column bracket then bolts to the dash using 4 m8 bolts.

Yeah they’re captive or rivnuts fitted to all 4. No access as it’s welded to the frame of the car.

You could drill it out and fit a rivnut

Ok mate that’s a good idea ,I’d probably still have to take clocks out to release the support bracket to get a rivnut in there
