Rainsport 3 on the back of my mk5 was horrible as the sidewalls are so soft. Always felt as though the rear was unstable/sliding. I quickly moved them to the front. They are a lot heavier than a mk2 though
I'll be trying a set of NS2R's in the summer. See how they fare.. But for wet driving, 90% of the time in the UK, then the Rainsports are perfect. They held up surprisingly well at Curby, I was surprised.
So it looks like Rainsport 3s or NS-2R seem to be the ones of choice. I'm running KW V2, all pollybushed etc, and the car will only really be used on "nice" days, never as a daily. and the car will never see salt or snow. so out of those two options what would people suggest?
Haha, I live up the garvock! some belting roads. the cairn is a bit dodgy just now, I had the landcruiser up there offroading the other day and had to dig myself out of three feet of snow after it got bellied haha
I will most likely end up with multiple sets of tyres and wheels, but I was just looking for recommendations as ive always ran proxes. And since the car wont be used daily, I can afford a set of super grippy tyres to run all the time. The car is being built to be thrown around the back roads at its absolute limit mainly so looking for maximum grip over a happy medium for now.
Absolutly fine. They have a B rating in the wet so better than most normal road tyres. Ive used mine in all weathers even tried it in the snow but that was a no no!! They do get very grippy when hot but work from cold just fine. From running mine on ns2rs ive converted 5 of my mates who all use them daily. Nothing but good feedback from all of them :-)
What are they like width wide? In say a 195/50? As I've read that R888's come up a bit bigger than your traditional 195/50 road tyre.
Yeah generally semi slicks tend to be a bit bigger than tradition tyres. You may need to do some arch rolling/cutting depending how low your car is/wheel offset. These are 195/50's on a 15x7 wheel
Based on the second picture in 34#. What are they like in those conditions? From a rolling start how much could you punch it in 1st?
Big fan of Yoko ADO8R's. Difference was like night and day on my mk2 compared to the uniroyals before. Smallest profile in 15 is a 50 though.
Jon, I know this can be subjective, but can you go in a bit more detail regarding how the AD08r's were different to the RS3 or RS2 ?
