 as much as i love the boxer too, i'd rather it sounded like and aircooled porsche boxer engine!! oh and have you seen subaru have made a derv boxer motor now!!

as for my car, i started it again yesterday to have another tinker and for all i could tell, it sounded much better, so not sure what to make of it!!!

i have changed the oil pump today as i was getting pressure warnings etc, and having eliminated the two sensors, the pump was next inline, but battery is now dead, so letting her charge over night tonight and then we shall she how we fair tomorrow, if she's beating like a boxer from cold, ill makes a movie of it!!!

cheers for all the ideas/help tho guys, always appreciated!

    bring on tommorow!

OH GOOD GOD!!!!!!!!!! IT IS STILL NOT RIGHT!!!!!!!!!

ok, so it was charged up enough to take it out for a drive, i had been out in it for a good 20min ontop of it idleing stood still for 10min, and for like 3seconds the oil warning buzzer and light flashed on, and then went out, and then i drove on (carefully) for another 20min and never saw it again! when it happend i looked at the fluid temps and water and oil were both bang on!

so list of new parts, ontop of rebuilding the engine!

new oil pump, new high and low pressure oil sensors!!
    so what is next????????????

also, the cold start like a "boxer engine" has gone, so please about that,
not so please that the idle is now crap, having swaped the ISV for a newer, cleaned out one.

when i let off, it will stop breifely at 1200rpm and them drop down to 800ish and then go up and down between 800 and 400rpm???? any ideas

i am SOOOOO close to giving up on this which absolutely distroys me, but i just can't aford to keep fixing everything, please help me keep it

Did you prime the new oil pump when you put it on?

yeah, i packed the lift head with some vaseline and filled it up while turning the pump till it was full, then used the started to turn it over a few times to be sure before starting it.

just a thought, do you think the AFM could be responsible for the uppy downy idle? if so, how do you do the spring trick inside???

Yes, and the cam is probably making it bad when cold. Take off the black cover from the AFM, and fidddle with it. It might neeed to be a few notches tighter, or it might need to be a few notches looser. Experiment...

if you loosen it, you are allowing it a richer mixture at low revs. if you tighten it, the opposite.

ok, so thismorning saw the return of my "boxer engine" cold starting!
it took me ten mins to get her to start, it would turn fine, but just not start at all!!!

and 45min into my journey to work the oil pressure warnings came on for 5seconds and then never apeared again!!! oil level was fine, temp was fine, bla bla

also the idle is still dippin in and out of 800-400rpm

please help i'm so close to givingin up

what cams have you got in there then.?
Has the engine been mapped with them in mind?

Does the situation vastly improve once the engine is warm?

i have a newmans 268 cam in it, and Awesome GTI tunned it in with timming etc, it hasn't been mapped yet, the fueling is a little lean at the top, but otherwise its not too bad, and yeah once its warm, it is much much better, the idle is a bit up and down though between 800-400rpm but i have put a much newer and cleaner ISV on it which was working before removal.

Hey just read this info from an old gti site....I'll just paste it in>>>

1st, check to see if you can turn your idle screw with just your fingers. If you can, it probably means the 0-ring on the screw is bad. Go to a hardware store, and get whatever 0-ring fits snugly around the idle screw. If you do not replace a bad 0-ring, your idle will "self-adjust", on a daily basis, and you will come whining to the mailing list.

Could be something worth checking? could be the reason for idle playing you around after being setup properly.....

it just cuts out with the ISV unplugged!

cheers for the info with regards the idle screw 0-ring, but just had a look now and hurn my finger trying to move it, definately wont move.

it really more a cold start this now, althought the idle still dips in and out
