If your talking about the one around the filler neck then it's an earth to remove any static charge. I soldered mine to the metal of the filler neck opening. The other end clips around the square hole of the filler neck bolt hole.(if that makes sense

This is where the mk2 tank earth's.

    Hi Jay,

Loving the way the underside turned out, looks amazing, exactly the result I'm looking for!

How did you find the sikaflex when applying over original underseal which you didn't remove? Did it adhere well? This is my biggest worry at the moment and its stopping me from progressing as I want to leave some underseal on mine where the underlying metal is good, but am worried about applying fresh underseal over it an it not sticking well [:s]

    Cheers

    Chris

    hi chris

what i did m8 is scrape of the lose stuff of and use wire wheels, apart from the tank spare wheel area and the inner struts most of the car was striped down then zinc all underneath then seam sealed it and used stikaflex all under the car with 18 sausage at 10 pound each not cheap but should of been more but i must say stuck really well and it`s the best thing i done and worth doing great finish rubbery, sound deadening the stone`s sure bounce of it now, then 2 coats of left over blue paint then 2 coats la5y helios blue then lacquer so she must last another 10 years i hope. I hope this help m8 and thanks for your comment

Wicked mate thanks for the info, going to look into getting some now. I have zinc primed some areas on the underside of mine too, just need to reseal it all now, definitely looking for something with an OEM rubbery finish so will see where I can get some sikaflex from

    Keep the updates coming mate.

Holy crap. That progressed quickly into paint then bolting bits on.
If you wanted OEM tank straps then mk3 ones fit and are available from Vw.

Fantastic work, and I know that your pics don't show the amount of work that must have gone into that paint job. Shall be following this with interest.

What colour is this? Looks similar to my la9v metallic Black, then it looks grey. Now I think it's the blue/black.
