How do you know it never opened. Wouldn't the lid need to be on the airbox in order for a vacuum to be corrected and if so, how could you see if the flap was open or not.

I'm not doubting you - Just curious.

It was pretty well seized when I removed it...so I doubt it opened.
Maybe it did...but I doubt the vacuum would have been strong enough to overcome the sticktion.

mine hasnt had the hot air feed for years now. the hot air feed is a permanent cold air feed poking out through the fog light

no adverse effects on my car at all

Hadn't read this since beginning of December.

Just "modded" my airbox today. I'm going to do the same as Matt with the hot air feed and loop some ducting to a colder aired area. The ducting I had was effin huge, would of made an wesome ram pipe given the room!!

Toyo - if you need an ABF with a s/s exhaust already on for any future tests just give me a yell.

Any idea what effect the trumpet/velocity stack/bellmouth length has?

If you back track in the thread it was found to have little to no effect on this application.

Another 16v MK3 vehicle is being secured to continue development work.
It would take some time as the vehicle will have to rebaselined before fit to carry-on where we left off on the last set of testing.

Yes the VR6 stuff is being wrapped up, with just few tweaks to be done for this hot weather. Hoping to update that thread when I have some time.

im no expert but surely a pipercross viper or bmc cda would be a easier way than all that modding of the standard airbox have you tested either of them to see the gains good work though:thumbup:

If you are willing to spend money for no proven gain (possibly loss) with horrendous "mooing", remember a stock air box costs nothing as it should come with the vehicle.

If you understand what was done here, as do most enthusiasts, then the time to coordinate and test took the most time.
Most aftermarket filters or elements will have the same characteristics as the pod or panel filter tested in this exercise, so no need to waste dyno time and my time testing.

    Pipercross viper

My recommendations would be to mod airbox and use a panel filter to reduce service intervals and filter costs.

i do understand that just thought that u would get similar gain from a cda like filter thought its more that your sucking in hot air with normal induction kits that hurt the power from the increase in intake temps your the expert as i said good work great intresting thread
ps i like the mooing as u put it:lol:

ebay.. search trumpet under vehicle parts and styling section.

Although post #87 suggests it makes little difference in NASP applications.
