    Hi,

has anyone replaced the UJ on a Mk3? I am changing the UJ gaiter in engine bay in near future and have decided to replace the UJ while it’s all disconnected. My steering has been making a clunk/knocking sound when turning wheel at very low speed (parking up etc) so I assume there is play in the one on my car. I’ve bought a used oem part off eBay with no play in it.

I’ve had a look in Haynes manual and as usual the instructions seem badly worded.

    Any help much appreciated

    Paul

The part number listed on eBay was 1H0419955.

I’m hoping this is the correct part before I start the job.

its a little fiddly, if you remove the pinch bolt on the ignition housing you can pull the whole column with wheel and stalk still attached up which will help give you the clearance you need. That part number doesnt come up in ETKA but this isnt unusual for these, main thing is you have the correct version to suit your steering rack

Thanks Johnny, I’ve attached pictures. Not sure if DC87223A-0561-4EA6-982A-76D415FCE09A.jpeg 35DD1048-58F8-418C-805D-9EDAEC70151D.jpeg 5C0FDC39-C5B3-40BB-A740-51A50010FC00.jpeg EA1C53C7-178A-43D5-8453-075C5B3DA093.jpeg you’ll be able to tell if correct part or not?
