does anyone know what these wires are coming from the black plug near my heater fan plug in my picture? They continue to 2 further plugs which aren't connected to anything then the rest are just snipped off. I guess its nothing important as everything works, it just worries me a bit as they look factory.

Thats good news. there is so much unused wiring in my car, most of it is obviously aftermarket but I thought this looked factory. One day I'll get it all stripped out.

random black and brown/clear 2 pair cables aftermarket, assume speakers. the white and black 2 pin plugs near by are original speaker plugs, black goes to dash speaker, white is where door speaker wiring plugs in. cut off wires with cable tie is original vw stereo speaker plug chopped off as per usual. single black/red wire with clear spade is for the glovebox light

Would the glovebox light cable come from the fusebox or ignition switch area? I have a long single black & red coming from the ignition switch with a single pin factory connector halfway along it. Any idea?

When I am building my projects, I use A2 Resource, my A2 Bentley as well as the Golf MK2/Cabrio Chilton to work seamlessly on MK1 or MK2 electrics.
If you need a copy of any relevant area, I can share. You will need to be proficient in reading VW current flow.
I could not build any of my cars without those resources.

My mistake, it's brown & red. Quite a thin wire with a square connector half way along it. Comes out the back of the ignition barrel.

ah thats the key-in-ignition live for the radio. the plug is where the ignition loom side plugs into the dash side :)
