its not too bad really, just a case of figuring out what the equivalent vag-com procedure is

    Its identical for VagCom

Cutting out most of the crap:

    • ‒ → Pull crankcase breather hose -1- off pressure regulating valve -2- and route so that only fresh air can be drawn in.

    • ‒ Then:
    o ‒ Leave fault reader V.A.G 1551 connected.
o ‒ Continue running engine at idling speed.

    • "Initiate basic setting” same as VAg-Com

Input 01 for "Display group number" and confirm with Q key. Go into display group 1

    → Indicated on display:
(1...4 = Display zones) System in basic setting 1 ⇒
    1 2 3 4

Do not continue with check until an 8 digit number block 00000000 appears in the 4th display zone.
    Note:
If at one or more positions a 1 is displayed in display zone 4, the test conditions have not been fulfilled:
=>Page 01-38; Relevance of figures in 8 digit number block
    • ‒ Check ignition timing at 2000...2500 rpm.
Specification: about 6 before TDC fluctuating1)
    1) Up-to-date specifications:
    => Exhaust emissions test binder
    • ‒ Allow engine to idle for at least 1 minute.
    • ‒ Read Lambda voltage in display zone 3. Lambda voltage must fluctuate by
    more than 0.3 V.
    • ‒ End the engine basic setting by pressing the⇒ button. When doing this the radiator fan must not run.
    • ‒ Input 06 for "End output" and confirm with Q key.
If the specifications are not obtained:
    • ‒ Check air intake system for leaks (leakage air)
    => Page 24-82.
    • ‒ Check exhaust system between cylinder head and catalyst including CO sampling pipe for leaks.
    • ‒ Check Lambda probe and Lambda control.
    • ‒ Carry out road test, then repeat fault memory interrogation and basic setting.

I'm out for dinner tonight but if you want to PM me your email Matt I'll look out the WinELSA fault finding procedures for overun cutoff?

    Edit: No need see below

    Digifant injection and ignition system
    Checking engine operating mode
Check for Digifant 3.2 only (10.94▸)

(Interrogate control unit version => Page 01-4; Connecting fault reader V.A.G 1551 and selecting engine electronics control unit).

    Note:

Check establishes whether Digifant control unit (J169) recognises the engine operating modes (idling, part throttle, full throttle, overrun).

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items

    ◆ Fault reader V.A.G 1551 or vehicle system tester V.A.G 1552 with cable V.A.G 1551/3
    Test conditions

    ● Coolant temperature at least 80 C
    Test sequence

‒ Connect fault reader V.A.G 1551 (V.A.G 1552) and select engine electronics control unit with the "Address word" 01. When doing this the engine must be running at idling speed.
(Connecting fault reader and selecting engine electronics control unit => Page 01-4.)

→ Indicated on display: Rapid data transfer HELP
    Select function XX

‒ Input 08 for "Read measured value block" function and confirm with Q key.

→ Indicated on display: Read measured value block HELP
    Input display group number XX

‒ Enter 04 for "Display group number" and confirm with Q key.

    → Indicated on display:
(1...4 = Display zones) Read measured value block 4 ⇒
    1 2 3 4

‒ Observe display zone 4 -8 digit number block-:
(The right-hand 4 digits are of no consequence)
    Display in operating mode

    ◆ Idling:
2nd position from left must display 1
    Display: 01000000
    ◆ Part throttle:
    ‒ Rev up evenly.
3rd position from left must display 1
    Display:: 00100000
    ◆ Full throttle:
‒ Floor accelerator pedal and release.
4th position from left must briefly display 1
    Display: 00010000
    ◆ Overrun mode:
‒ Raise engine speed to above 3000 rpm.
    ‒ Close throttle abruptly.
As long as the engine speed is above 1500 rpm 1st position from left must display 1
    Display: 11000000 (briefly)
    Note:

Below 1500 rpm idling speed is again recognised.

    ‒ Press ⇒key.
‒ Input 06 for "End output" and confirm with Q key.
If the specifications are not attained:

‒ Interrogate fault memory, if necessary, repair fault and erase fault memory.
=> Page 01-7, interrogating and erasing fault memory
    ‒ Check throttle valve potentiometer
    => Page 24-43.
‒ Check idling switch => Page

I'm going to hazard a guess at a faulty idle switch...

yeah I know its the same procedure, what i meant was, e.g instead of 'Input 04 for "Initiate basic setting and confirm with Q key" you just click "Basic Settings - 04" ;)

once you get your head round what elsawin is on about in terms of vag-com buttons its pretty simple

closed throttle switch def works. vagcom binary confirms that.

done the basic setting thing and the car feels pretty awesome

gonna get a mityvac and find the rest of the problem.

i cant beleive the car feels as awesome as it does at 228k

vagcom binary code thing confirms that mine is never actually getting into an "over run" state.

ecu vac hose is coming off tonight to see if there are any issues. id be suprised, i know its air tight but there could be a block, has been on there four years, failing that its just poor manifold vacuum

oddly, it was the nipple on the ECU that was blocked. makes zero sense because the engine will always be pulling air toward the manifold...

replaced the hose inside the ecu and saw that my ECU actually has 82 stamped on the inside, so all of this was clearly destiny.

measuring block 4 has a binary which can indicate over run, idle, part load and full load.

it shows all of those correctly now

Surely only 'pulling' on high vacum e.g. idle? must be something to do with pressure changes shoving or migrating stuff up the MAP tube... How bizarre. At least it's fixed and the Fury hath returned.

with vengence too. i really did "neglect" the car for a long time.

the car always had a wobbly idle, refurbed injectors and a new lambda sorted that (after id owned it for almost 5 years and 90k miles). the idle is perfect. after the big reset the revs drop straight to just over 800.

seems to have more torque everywhere. before, the throttle response was a bit on/off, now it feels great

GF was driving me home in it the other night (i was well drunk) and she got the limiter in 1st and 2nd (i think shes used to her mk4 going soft at the top end so just kept her foot in) and it even makes a couple pops at the limiter!

you should tag along with ess three to the RR day

i thought there would be pull on the vac line at any throttle position below full throttle, non?

once you have installed vagcom browse to the installation folder (c:\program files\vagcom usually) then inside there should be a labels folder pop em in there. if in doubt look inside you should see lots of other .lbl files :)
