what would it take to get a valver to do this, what mods, with as small a budget as poss. I would have thought a 2 litre lump to start with..
stick it in a stripped out mk1 nah,2.0 would be a good starting point then losing some weight would help, and a trip to stealth too
GVK How long is yor 2nd gear, Cause my 16V seems to be able to pull 70/75. Wasn't sure if this was normal or not?
No matter what the spec, any FWD is hard to get quick 0-60's. If your launch is poor, anything under 8 seconds is really good. If you're in the same car and your launch is perfect, it's possible to get a high 6, that's the difference!!
Dalj's mildy tweeked 1.8 kr does 15.1sec 1/4 at pod so I would say thats at least 7sec's roughly if not lower. Nav16v's 1.8 kr got 7 ish 0-60 at inters in the rain! But everyone disputes the accuracy of inters anyway. A good setup of the enigine and hard launching should see you in the 7's if the car is running healthy. I suppose the cheapest method is to get the final drive changed in your 'box to give your shorter gearing. You would max out at no more than 130mph on limiter in 5th but acceleration to that speed would be unreal! Edited by: vw_singh
Is he? Got it timed? Its got the spec to do it I know.. Jetta did 6.8 to 60 many eons ago. (3rd gear on short box) Edited by: badger-bill
If you striped the sh1t out of a valver like no carpets one seat and thats it and a LSD plus slicks i'm sure it would pull 0-60 in sub 7's
yeah I was thinking that weight (loss) could count for a lot. You could go the whole hog and take out heater system, seats (except drivers), carpets, carry a small amount of fuel, consoles, door panels, tailgate (!), etc. etc. So coupled with a 2 litre lump, decent filter and exhaust, good tuning up (I thought the KR couldn't be tuned much ), and smooth take off on a smooth road, (with a tail wind) could do a 6.5
Bullit (malc ring) did a low 5 secs in his mk1 2 litre valver I believe, PVW hall of fame. fireheed, sounds as though you've got a similar 'box to me Look underneath and see if says DFQ on the flat machined part of the bell housing
Off-shore at the mo but will check when i get home. I was quite impressed, only thing is 3rd is only fit for another 20 on top of that if remember right, (but i don't do that sort of speed so i wouldn't know! )
