People say the VR is massively heavier, i'm not so sure, once the inlet manifold is off the VR doesn't look like such a monster. Does anyone know the weight of these two engines??? (or the curb weight of a mk3 16v and a mk3 VR6) Edited by: 1990
doen't it mount further forwards too? sling the battery in the back, along with all the washer bottles etc that would help a little
Isn't there an aluminium made VR6 available/in development to bring the weight down? I'm sure I read/heard about it somewhere but if I'm talking sh1te feel free to say so
1 stone= 14lbs 10 stone is 140 lbs 1kg=2.2lbs i weigh about 205 lbs at the moment from the feel of lifting a 16v engine 260 lbs seems about right ish maybe pretty sure a vaux xe engine weighs 315lbs [Oddball any idea?]so an ABF may be a bit more due to the thicker deck, heavier crank k-series is 8 stone lighter than a xe and a hayabusa engine weighs approx 160 lbs
only thing I can help with for comparison which I've actually weighed, is a 9A motor on a longitudinal gearbox which weighed in at 187kg, complete with all ancillaries, rads/exhaust etc etc. or a Polo G40 motor and box which tipped the scales at 124kg, also inc. rad/pipes/downpipes etc. not helping much am I... book weights for the two cars would be best, as the other differences will be minor- 91 2.0 16v - 1100kg 91 VR6 - 1155kg figures from carfolio.com Edited by: jbmg40
