was wondering how difficult and if doable it is to weld in a bung for exhaust temperature probe in to cast manifold, jabbasport one?

    Cheers

its tough, best to get it done by a pro, if you are not confident, or find some cast and teach yourself.

Cant you just tap it. I know a few VR turbo boys who tap the manifold for EGT sensors

Complex job welding cast, must be got Cherry Red before welding then cooled in stages from weld temp to cold over a period of time to prevent cracking.

    Cheers for your thoughts lads

I know its well difficult to weld thats why i'v asked

Was thinking of tapping it in but not sure how it would react with extreme temp changes and possibly falling out!

by drilling and tapping you would potentially be introducing stress raisers to the manifold. means if it cracks for some reason then thats the point at which it starts.... like the drilled brembo porker disks.

The EGT K-type thermocouples we used to use at my old work place used to require drilling and tapping to fit. They normally come with a blank to seal the hole once the thermocouple has been removed.

    Similar to this:

We didn't have any cracking problems but they were only used in development. The Manifolds were usually replaced with a new one after.

Dunno which one would be better to drill and tap, manifold or turbo hot housing

Bit of a bump this one, but did you ever do this??

Looking at mounting (drill and tap) an egt sensor in a cast jabba manifold but I'm a bit scared of introducing a possible weak point?!

If you are thinking of welding cast, you can use a coal BBQ to heat it up, take it off to weld it then put it back on with the lid on to let it cool down. Is not ideal but wil be good enough.

I think you can also use gas BBQs but they dont hold the heat for as long but you could always leave it on and gradually reduce the gas over time to let it cool.

no, just drill and tap. although the bsp taps are expensive.
