Right then, as the engine is now in the bay, its time to link up all the coolant hoses.

Im still unsure where this pipe goes marked with the ?

It comes off the middle of the metal coolant pipe -

Anyone know where it goes ?

Its doesn't go to the coolant tank obviously, and it doesn't go to the rad ?

    Anyone know ? Cheers

Just checked mine and it is indeed capped off.

Also had a look on ETKA and should you want to get it from the dealer the part number is:

    078 133 335 A for the cap
N 906 869 01 for the spring clamp that holds it on the metal pipe.

    Thats great, thanks Lewis

Will pop down to VW tomorrow and get it ordered.

I wonder what it was used for on my engine, as it has a long'ish rubber pipe fitted to it ?

Couldn't say for sure. I checked ETKA and on all the 1.8T engines that have that shape metal pipe they're all capped. Either way you will be fine capping it off:thumbup:

The supply hose for the turbo goes to the bottom of the coolant flange, seen here -

And return on the back of the block

I did try and have a look on the MK4, but the PCV system was in the way!

Thanks mate. I'll just cap it off mate.

Just need some advice on the coolant hoses really.

What are people using for coolant / rad hoses ?

Im using a newish 8v rad, so obviously the old 8v hoses will not reach.

Ive been looking at some flexible rubber hoses, but they cost silly money.

    What are people using ?

And also, what have you used for the matrix heater hoses ? The original ones cut to size ?

So far so good thanks

Im gonna take my time with everything now, as there are a few things that still need doing. My goal is to get it finished by Inters.

I'll have a look around the scrap yards. Im guessing some of the bigger Audi's would have longish water pipes.

The engine came with a new cambelt fitted mate

All i did was fit the tensioners ect and set the timing, making sure TDC and flywheel markings were lined up.

Just wondering, could i use this outlet, which is normally capped off, for the coolant supply for the turbo ?

Or does it have to come from the coolant flange on the side of the head ?

Reason i ask is because i have a lenght of pipe off a VW which is the perfect fit and length.

    Any ideas ? Cheers

    Hi Richard,

Do you have a diagram at all of the coolant lines and direction you used? Cheers
