From memory the 1.4 petrol versions are the worst offenders.

    - Control arm bushes. Leads to outer edges of front tyres wearing.
    - Electric window problems. Sport models have one touch windows and motors for these cost a hell of a lot more than normal ones.
    - All models apart from the diesel and possibly the GTi suffer from regular gearbox failures.
    - Door opening limiters (the little arm between the door and A pillar) can creek. Require replacement.
    - Pedal boxes fail like polo's did. Cracking, creaking or loss of pedal usage.
    - Roof gutters are known to rust.
    - The rear wash/wipe fail. Mine won't squirt washer fluid and requires the whole unit to be replaced.

I want to get a 1.4tdi Lupo or Arosa. Anyone owned either and is there anything different to the above to look for and which out of the 2 is better if any?

    Thanks
