For me it has to be Maurice Reeves mark one. No explanation necessary Roy Koenan{?} blue mark 1 16v g60 on 16" speedline alloys JD mk1 G60 Mark elliots maark one when turbo. 13.4 for the quarter was amazing back then Larry Edwards mk2 turbo. Used to enjoy the competition with that and Elliots/ dUBSPORT CARS Andy Waites mark one. Can't argue with 9.8. Rocket Ronnies R33 GTR. First time I heard and external wastegate. It howled!
Or Nick Wilsons lhasa green mark one and there was a bunch of other lads from the toon who all had nicely modified mark ones in the early 90's
Nick Simon Dawes Mark Hogg + ? Swift Durhamshire lads, first met them circa '92/93 Nick & Simon were on the 'Ring trip back in '06
Honestly... now don't laugh... Model T I've never even seen a real one, but just seeing it's basicness in a picture in a book... I started to wonder what did what and then compared it to modenr (in the 70's) cars. I suppose from there it went onwards and upwards. I never really liked many early 70's cars, they were FARRRR too bland for my liking. BUT the GT40 has and probably will always be my epitomof FWOOAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRR
I'll second that I remember buying a big box of car mags from a jumble sale when i was a little kid.. And going through them i come across this amazing green monster with 2 engines and tail pipes hanging out like a pair of small cannons.. This car is what gave me the bug..
More really old ones for me were (forgot his name sorry) Ginger chap with the mega quick red mk1 many many years ago. TSR Black? mk1 G60 with vent on top of the wing, one of the 1st iirc back in the day. That mk1 with the VR6 in it and the bodykit maxpower style, porsche peppermint green maybe?
My dad's mate's Mk1 GTI , about 25 years or more ago , bear in mind I'm 32.... at the time it was the coolest car in the world , for me.
I must have been about 10 on a trip to London with my parents to visit friends and we followed a white mk1 golf gti with dark tinted rear lights and a shiney back box for a couple of miles. I had no idea at that age what it was, but from the back seat of my dad's 1.3 "poular" mk4 escort it seemed so low and wide and cool, and it sounded great! On announcing that I WOULD have one of those when I was older my dad seemed rather dissappointed that I hadn't aimed a bit higher, but my heart was set! More recently, but still a while back, in my m*x p*wer reading days there was a feature on a blue dutch mk1 golf, on white Azev As, think it had a clipper kit on it and I think the owner was called Jeroen? (probably spelled wrong!) I don't remember the spec now, and my mag collection has since been disposed of , but I seem to recall he ran it on some "special brew" fuel?! It was this car that re-ignited my love for the boxy mk1 styling! Edit: Just read the revived "First ever Mk1 VR6" thread and found Jeroen Diks Mk1! That must have been 10-15 years ago now, it's taken me this long but now I finally have one!
Various small fun vehicles from quad bikes and '60s minis to early Golf GTi's and the likes of MK1 Fiesta SuperSports/XR2's. Speed alone maketh no fun car, especially on public roads. But simplicity combined with the chosen balance of senses - a package allowing the driver to experience a hilariously enjoyable driving experience even at sociable speeds. The feeling of power is no match for the feeling of nakedness, as illustrated by the Go-Ped being more fun than the Boeing..
