    Hi Volks,
In the past I’ve always used VW genuine gearbox oil in my 020’s but it is pricey and I want to start dropping and replacing the oil more frequently from now on. Main question is, there’s no viscosity labelled on the genuine stuff so not too sure what I should be looking at as a good if not better replacement?
    Thanks.

75W-90 GL-4 is what it takes unless I'm mistaken - you shouldn't really need to change it that frequently, what's your reasoning for wanting more frequent changes?

    Frequent changes are good
The old green Haynes recommends a straight ep80 too. Either work well from experience.

Thanks guys. Reason for more frequent changes is that I changed my oil about 4000m ago. I’ve just put in a new clutch and drained the same oil at that time and it was black again. Removing the end cap there was crud in there and I just thought an increase in frequency will help flush that all out from elsewhere in the box too. That’s it really. And thanks Johnny that is a v.reasonable price. My dealer has priced it at almost £20/litre. That was G005 000. Dunno what the difference is apart from a tenner a litre?

G005000 is listed for the 084 box, the part number I posted is for 020 and 02a :)

Thanks Johnny, I’ve already ordered 2 of the one you suggested.

Holy smoke that's some amount of crud - looks like that's another job added to my "to-do" list
