I heard from another member of my racing team, that if i polish all the under bonnet stuff like rocker cover, alternator, inlet manifold etc, etc, that it will increase power by up to 20%!!! Is this true as he has started to do it on his car.

I thought that stuff was show and shine only.

You started off so well.. confident in your knowledge of car tuning and modification.

You let yourself down with this doubt..

    Be confident man! [8D]

I was just covering myself incase he would say "the airflow over the alternator will be increased by 0.01% which would reduce the overall CD by 0.00000000000000000000000000000001% and therefore increase the cars performance".

Think he was still having a laugh!

If you polish your tyre treads it causes less drag and you go faster.

Well thats what my nest door neighbor think!! [|)]

You would have to polish for some time to reduce enough weight to cut your 1/4 mile time in half.

I cant beleive some of you thought that i was serious. That really is worrying. LOL

Dont you worry, I wont be doing any polishing of my cars engine bay. I'll just keep on turning up the boost.

Gillm, you can kiss my ass. That tank should be running on form by the weekend and we will see who's the daddy! Ask becky if she wants to come with me or you! (You out for a pint tonight m8?)

if you polished it enough you could rub the metal back enough to lighten the car!

i was under my car the other day and had no tools to cut a exhasut rubber that i forgotten to remove before trying to drop the rear beam. I used a drill with a polishing attachment, polished my way through it, filling the garage with smoke in the process!

When I lived in Canada I knew a kid with a Lexus IS200 - he used bumper restorer (back to black type stuff but foam) on the tyre treads to make them shiny. RWD of course so he slid off the road backwards through the window of a donut shop, posted on a forum to ask why it happened. Cue 14 pages of replies LOL
