Struggling to follow this without images... so may or may not help, however does give some info. into the colour coding of the speedo gears for MK1/2 cables. Mid-way down the page... http://brokevw.com/020ratios.html
Hey thanks for the response! This will actually help me alot because i couldn't find anything on this. Also did not know they were color coded! Maybe that's why. But just to clarify, putting in the right cog in the gearbox (I have a DFQ) and replacing the sensor by putting the right speedocable in there, this should work just fine? (Sorry for not including any images, i'm new to the forum and am not able to post images, even though i tried haha)
No worries, 10 posts will allow you to stick up images. My turn to be sorry, but anything after the MK2 isn't my thing and can't answer what you need to know.
yep, match the colour of gear to the final drive in the gearbox. this is becasue the gear picks up from the output shaft, not the differential as on most. the other thing to note is the long peg on the end of the gear needs to drop into a machined hole in the bottom of the casing. if you dont do that the gear wont properly mesh, making speedo not work and have the drive gear on the output shaft chew away at it as well
Right, bought a new cog, a red one so i'll put it in this weekend and see what happens! Thanks everyone
Hello, I have used the AGG 2.0 block and want to keep my old alternator/pulley set up from the PB engine, but my alternator pulley doesn't seem to line up with the main pulley from the crankshaft… Can anyone shed some light on what my issue is?
Yes, I tried using the PB crank pulley but it didnt seem to line up correctly, I then changed the pulleys and belts to the mk3 setup but I’m missing the tensioner and the belt kept slipping, so I tried to change back to the mk2 setup but No luck… I noticed the lower cambelt cover was getting in the way of the alternator belt also, do i need to use the PB cambelt cover with the PB alternator setup? As i currently have the AGG cambelt covers on
the covers are a bit of a mismatch and compromise, from what i recall. when i did my 2E / PB engine using a PB alternator setup, it was 2E back plate and cover on the bottom, AGG top cover and a little Audi back piece to clip the out pulley cover too as i kept the PB cam cover. if you use the AGG cam cover then you don't need the Audi bit. pretty sure my AGG based engine uses AGG covers and PB Pulleys never had an issue. have you got some pics?
My AGG uses PB pulleys, pas pump and water pump, and is fine. They're usually a little out of line, maybe 1-2mm , but not loads . I usually put a shim under the water pump pulley
