almost right trev, its the Y connectors you plug into for the seats and yah fuse clipped above the fusebox and earth to the claw. simples
Thanks Paul. Yeah it's finally getting to that point. The next plan is to apply a few coats of lacquer, and then get the shell off the rotisserie and onto a dolly so that reassembly can start. Not this kind of Dolly.
At the weekend I applied a final dusting of body colour underneath, and then several coats of lacquer. That is the underside body now completely finished. Then I finally got the shell off the rotisserie and back onto the floor on axle stands. All this doesn't sound much but it's a bit of a momentous occasion after all this time. The rebuild finally starts now. The next thing I'm probably going to do is get the doors, tailgate and bonnet back on. Before doing that I'm going to attempt to replace the door pins and hinges on the left-hand (driver) door which suffers from the usual MK2 droop. I ordered some pins off eBay because they are NLA from VW. I also ordered some hinges via eBay. I don't know how easy (or not!) it's going to be to punch those pins out.
I may have thrown some pins and a brand new hinge away the other day. Wrong side though, they were for the other side.
Very quick update, just for the sake of doing an update. I replaced a very worn hinge on the driver side door. I did a DIY guide about it here. This seems to have improved the droop on that door. The task I'm now doing is to finish the repair around the filler. As I showed on previous pages, the body shop did a bodge job of the repair of the inner panel, so I had to redo it myself. This means that the fresh paint under the filler flap around the hole had to be disturbed as I spot welded the new inner repair section in place. So I need to re-fill, prime and paint this area. The good thing is that it's behind the flap so hopefully if I do a decent enough job it should blend it quite well. I need to get that finished and painted this weekend ready for a polishing session that a friend is going to do for me next weekend.
Machined parts and VAG fasteners have turned up for the Syncro rear beam camber adjustment modification. There are full details about this modification here. The point of this is to be able to correct negative camber at the Syncro rear axle caused by lowered suspension. In the early pictures of my car on the road (when it was quite low) you can see quite a bit of camber at the back.
The repair to the filler area was completed. I'm quite pleased with how I blended the paint in, though it's not too critical given where it is. The entire shell was then treated to a clean, polish and wax, thanks to my good friend Kav Bhamra pictured here. Kav did a fantastic job of flatting and polishing the repair I did, as well as fixing a few blemishes the shell had picked up during storage. While Kav got on with that, I installed a Digifiz into his Rallye. More brand new trim also went on. Also, a few of these arrived from a good friend in the US.
I have decided on what I am doing to do with regards to a fresh 16V G60 engine build for this car. Therefore new pistons have been ordered, and new rods and other internals are on their way. My KR with low-compression JE's is up for grabs if anyone's interested.
Actaully I can't claim I've even put some trim on, because Kav did it! He'd finished polishing the shell and I still hadn't finished wiring his Digifiz in, so I chucked him some parts to keep him occupied.
Making good progress. Id love either a 16v G60 or 16v turbo. Would be too complicated for me though, which is one of the reasons I went for a jenvey set-up. Pretty basic and easy to maintain. Will you be posting pics and details of your rebuild?
