Ah ok, just been to check again. 9A082296 is the engine number. Is that a late or early one? I was going to use the 9A head but unfortunately the stem seals were shot and the hg was possibly blown. And when one of the ex mani studs sheared in the head i thought i would cut my losses and source another head. which i have now found. when you say the bolts go soft you mean they lose tension after a while?
No... the bolts go soft before you've even tightened them correctly... they feel like they're going to snap.. Changing the stem seals isn't that hard, but the inlet guides are probably on the way out too. Don't know if that's an early or late 9A. There's normally a date stamp on the end of the (9A) head that would give you a clue, or look at the casting number on the 9A head. That'll tell you which type it is.
Ah ok i'll have to check when i get in altho im sure the cassting number on my head was something like 051103073. I'm not going to use these i don't think. There can't be any difference between the early and late blocks can there? Doesnt matter now anyway. I've just bought some different ones. Got a set of febi corrado 9a bolts from www.vwspares.co.uk. They are the same part number as the KR part. Cheers for that mike you're a star. I trust febi's. Going to take the GSF pap back and get a refund.
Ta mate. It better be im off to Australia in 6 weeks for at least a year and i want it tucked up before i go lol
im also in the process of building my 2.0l 16v engine with the 9a bottom end and a kr head. With regards to the head gasket will i be ok just to go ahead and fit the 9a head gasket with the kr head without any problems occuring
yeah as said earlier the 2l has a bigger bore so you need to use a 9a head gasket. I would imagine the 6a hg being the same as 9a but dont quote me. Its actually the head you refurbed im using steveb. got it off nordoff. you better not of stiffed me lol.
lol!! i was only thinking today i wanted it back lol i did the valve stems and all the head seals last year, it was also skimmed last year as the HG went, id do the stems again if i were you tho. probably doesnt need it but while the heads off.... far as i know its tip top was at a specialist last year and there was nothing wrong with it.
N1 . I realised the stems were gone on my 9a head and probably hg blown to. I wanted a shed head if i get one done but i havent got the time or money to sort it now as im off to Oz for at least a year in 6 weeks so i got this one off Nordoff instead so i can get the car back together and stowed in the garage.
