    Phew!

I heard of someone getting a baffled sump off the shelf and the paint inside blocking up their oil strainer

Thats the stuff! I couldn't think of the name.

TSC swears by it just as much as he swears at Hammerite.

dose anyone know the length of the bolts you need to use after you fit you're windage tray? people have said to use the diesel ones but vw will charge 3 times the price of a fixings retailer like oxford seals and bearings for exactly the same item.

If you already have a rubber sump gasket you can re-use the old bolts. if you have a cork one you need to replace them:
    N 904 234 02 - Hex bolt with shoulder, M6x17 - 0.57+VAT x20

If you get em from a fixings supplier get allen head ones like you get on the ABF, makes it much easier to do the 3 between the sump & gearbox!

pulled my finger out and got the sump done today [:D] even made templates so i can do it all again! oh the joy of welding on an oily sump.... think I might just order 5 or 6 new ones and begin building from there.

i'll be interested in a baffled sump for not too much . I have an ally sump at the mo and i have scraped it once, so i would like to replace it with a tin one anyway.

Top tip for eveyone, dont do your sump bolts up to 20Nm like the abf haynes says, 10Nm max for M6 bolts. Even if you don't snap the bolts at 20, your clamp load will be far less than at 10Nm and it may well leak
