Who says you cannot channel 200 ps through the front wheels of a FWD car? So what if I say you can channel 310 ps thrpugh the front wheels of a FWD production car and smash the current lap record around the ring. Yes, No? Well the Golf GTI Clubsport S just changed that for us. Driven by Benny Leuchter the Golf GTI was able to achieve 7 min 49.21 secs around the ring at times hitting 157 mph. Autocar explains how it was done as well as the changes to the vehicle to achieve such a feat. http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/n...lf-gti-clubsport-s-smashes-nürburgring-record And also had exclusive video footage. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01vtxvGuHdg Also on Piston heads some highlights. https://youtu.be/EJy9okjbdqw

Few pics wrestled from the interweb: Subtle "S" on the side stripe Maximum attack typical road-car on track pose. Front wheel off the deck and NS tyres rolling off the rim. 27.5 PSI cold I reckon? Drilled discs nice upgrade for standard CS or PP? TCR version might be eligible for VAG Trophy? Where's Mr Lines when you need him? Top Banana! Currywurst all round.
Following your comment Luke about the car in Worthersee, I picked these up from the Volkswagen FB page. Volkswagen is wasting no time to let you know who is the hatchback king at the moment!
Keep looking this and think I should change my wheel choice and go for the Pretorias. Or stick with what I've ordered and find some nice OZ's
The Pretorias are forged. I think they are a great looking wheel. You going for a standard Clubsport?
Yeah standard CS. Swapping from a 2-seater as we are fed up of having to go out in the Transit when family and friends are round. Don't think I'd be able to argue a Clubsport S past the Mrs on the premise "its got a bigger boot". Timing of the CS is near perfect after years chasing down G60s VR6 Storms and the like I wouldn't be happy riding round in a standard GTI or R when there is the chance of owning a special from new. Put the deposit down in Oct and were hoping to try and get the first one into the country but I think our options choice is going to hold it up at the factory end.
Not sure why they did not. Just shared pictures of this one of >>here<< That one off does have some 'nice' brakes on 20 in wheels!
Not a big fan of those discs. Call me stuck in my ways but they just don't look right to me. Those are the calipers that should be on the Clubsport S in my opinion. Good upgrade path for the standard CS. I've read somewhere that the S has a larger diameter exhaust than the CS. On that note a little bird told me a leading UK exhaust manufacturer has ordered a CS as a demo car.
I see. I was speaking to one of my friends about this, and it is pretty much a 'GT3' version of the MK7 Golf GTI.
From what I have read: Some 5% of the 400, i.e. 20 of the cars, will be built without aircon. This saves 15 kg. Will this mean that 7.5 UK cars will be without aircon? The kerb weight is still a massive 1360 kg. Which is heavier than my 90Q 20V. Why not proper Recaro seats? That would save another 20 kg! Still not a true ClubSport car. The Fiat Abarth 695 Biposto is much closer to the CS ethos!
It may be possible the car was ordered without AC by the person purchasing it. 1360 kg (the weight of a new Focus with a 120ps engine) is compensated with 310ps and judging by the display Luke S gave us at Curby with a Leon, which is based on a Mk7, I am doubtful 1360kg will really hold it back. Not Megane Trophy R 'light' but the extra power and sticky tyres do help.
