Hi all, Had s3 wishbone bushings fitted 16k miles ago and they have split already. They are genuine bushings too. Car is lowered on coil overs. I have s3 hubs to fit, do these reduce the angle of the wishbones at all? I've seen extenders for the ball joints on other cars, are they available for mk4 based cars? Thanks, Neil.
Are you sure they were genuine as I've never heard of this happening - cheap pattern bushes are a different matter though and last 1-2 years max (Lemfrder / Febi / Unipart etc - all the same)
the ones on the tt/s3/r32 are meant to last longer the one below is the standard mk4 bush it only lasted about 15000 miles from new before it started clonking the car was 18 months old at the time the main problem is the outers is made of aluminum witch corrodes and then rubber comes away
if you have had it less than a year and you got them from vw take it back with you receipt they should give you a new one
My mechanic is going to try that. The bushings on mine split across the rubber, they didn't come away from the alloy. No doubt its due to the car being lowered.
It's a seat leon cupra, same setup as a golf gti. I'd really like to know if there is a way of reducing the angle of the wishbones on a lowered car. Will the S3 hubs I have help?
Oh and my cupra just destroyed a polybush after 10k probably due to the car been lowered and the wishbones been at such an angle that the bushes are under such strain all the time.
that was what i was thinking i have fitted polybushs to my tdi all round and am not keen on how the rear wishbone bush sit's i all so have a 4motion that i am going to fit same tt/s3 hubs and alloy wishbones to and was going to use standard tt bush like you have what wishbones have you used seat leon or tt
To get the wishbones sitting level on a lowered Mk4 platform car then fit the LCR/TT/R32 hubcarriers/wheel bearing housings. The car will drive soooooooooooooooooooooo much better!
That's exactly what I wanted to hear. I have S3 hubcarriers being fitted on Friday. I'm nearly sure they are the same as tt, r32 ones.
I take it you'll be fitting the cast wishbones as well? Regular Mk4 platform balljoints are not a proper fit into S3/TT/R32/LCR hubcarriers. The S3 balljoint is bigger. Here is a pic of the difference between the two hubcarriers : TT/LCR etc on right.
