From what I gather its slightly off the OEM finish but does come with extra material for the sunroof panel and sun visors and stuff. Will probably get it sorted when the weather picks up a bit. And a meet up sounds good!
So recaros... hoping the resident experts @caddyboet and @rubjonny might be able to give thier thoughts on these.... MK2 electric recaros with the centres re done in GTI cloth, hes asking 900 posted inc the rear bench. No motors or loom tho! Not sure what the duct tape on the bottom is either. Worth a punt do you think? View attachment 25262
Are they manual/normal mk2 bases grafted on rather than missing the electric motor? Looks like they will fit if you're happy to remain manual. I've heard the mk2 electric bases are hens teeth rare and think end of £500 if you can find them. Assuming condition is good £900 is not crazy I don't think but of course you're missing the electric bases and OEM fabric so will they be as good an investment as the real deal I don't think so. That said the fabric on these is nicer than some of the OEM recaro fabrics. For comparison black leather recaros for the Corrado can be £2500-£3500 in nice nick and I'm pretty sure Mk2 recaros are pushing £2k when i see them for nice examples.
I think they are electric ones with the motors pillaged unless one of the experts can say otherwise. Switches are there just nothing else. TBH I'm not bothered about electric nor am I bothered about originality, I've accepted that proper g60 recaros will never be in my budget so these seem like the next best.
Recaro seem to be cashing in on the retro vibe and now offer a classic range that includes LX and LS's. There's prices on the e-Brochure (dated Jan. 2021)... not much in it regardless of the style you're after, all between £1650 and £1775'ish (per seat!) https://www.recaro-automotive.com/en/classic/recaro-classic-lx https://cdn.recaro-automotive.com/f...oads/recaro-classic-ls-lx-en.pdf?v=1621256416
Looking at these seats its apparent that the webbing on both seats is fooked hence the cable ties and duct tape, so as a minimum they need 6 "belts" and probably a set of clips, probably about 70 quids worth. Thinking if I go for them to offer 750 and see where it gets me, what do people reckon as I'm a total recaro noob
I’d pass on those Recaro’s. The webbing underneath is dead, and if they are missing the motors they will have no manual height/tilt adjust, only forward and back. At £900 you are more than halfway to a decent original set. I’d just hold tight until the right set come along.
Cheers for the input, agree about the webbing and priced up about 75 for new for both seats. I was under the impression the backrest angle would still move with the knob on the side? I'm not massively bothered about the up and down adjust as I dont think I have ever adjusted the height on my MK2. I might make a super cheeky offer and if he says no I'll move on...
Not wanting to invite myself but are you aware of https://www.themotorist.com/the-blue-train-cafe Sherburn in Elmet Meet-ups every Sunday AM. I"ve only been once. Nice mix of cars from Porsche to the ordinary.
Lovely GTI you have there! I think the best case scenario with those seats is that you get them for a reasonable/bargain price, they require some basic DIY fixing, and when you put them in the car the seat height is comfortable for you. A worse scenario would be that they require more than a DIY fix (and more expense), and/or the seat height is too high/too low. The lack of motors in those seats is only a problem if the current seat height is not comfortable for you and you need to adjust the height. Then the question is how do you adjust the height to make it comfortable, given the motors are missing? When I got my recaro's they were in good condition but the internal frame of the seat back needed welding near the base - I think it had weakened over time due to being tilted forward. This is the type of thing you can check if you see the seats before you buy. If buying from photo's, higher risk. I got the seats refurbed by MJ Interiors in Keighley - Michael there did a fantastic job. Have you considered mk3 recaro's as an alternative option? They are much cheaper than mk2 recaro's. Obviously the fabrics are different and you would still have to get frames that fit a mk2. Could be an option though.
