Cheers for the input, I managed to track down a previous owner of them and basically the bases sound like they are borderline fooked so on that basis I'm gonna go in very cheap and if its a "no" he can keep them
Alas the seats pictured above came to nothing. After a chat with the previous owner it turns out the frames were shagged and would have needed replacement along with some issues with the seats themselves, having said that I'm not scared of a little work so was willing to go ahead but not at anywhere near the 900 quid asking price.... an offer was made and the seller said he would rather keep them so that was the end of that. Consoled myself by ordering a new headliner and booking the services of a local trimmer to reform the drivers seat so not all doom and gloom
Great looking car that and the wheels are a huuuuuge improvement! 10 points for the cassette collection too I couldn't keep those plates and decal on it though, knowing that's the wrong dealer
Haha I know what you mean, but I dont know anything about where it spent the first few years of its life so I'll assume for now it spent some time living by the seaside in Brighton as the plates and sticker cost me 50 notes so I'm damned if I'm binning them!
Not much of an update but nonetheless.... refitted the OEM rear lights and popped on a pair of brand new genuine chrome door handle inserts today.
After almost giving up on the idea of a set of Recaros at a reasonable price, I stumbled upon a set of electric Recaros incl. door cards and rear bench (and a set of scene tastic Audioscape door pods) for a price that I couldn't pass up on, few tense days of waiting later these appeared at work on a pallet from Northern Ireland Just the one pic after a deep clean and leather balm hence the slightly shiny appearance
Busy day today. Electric recaros and new headliner fitted. Absolutely love these seats and can't wait until 1st April when its back on the road so I can get out and about in it rather than sat in the garage grinning!
Not much going on of late apart from routine maintenance and fixing which is pretty dull, and of course some cleaning and driving. All clean for its first trip to a show this year (elsecar)
Not updated in a while largely as not much has changed, but been on the hunt for a leather G60 steering wheel as I'm not a fan of the shiny plastic OEM one. Was a little worse for wear but was cheaper than the going rate as a result: Bought a leather refurb kit from "the leather repair company" and set to work reconditioning the wheel, looks pretty good if I do say so myself: That was just after a coat of leather balm, the finish has returned to a more OEM matt finish now. Think I'll be SORNing it at the end of Aug or Sep so will use the time off the road for more tinkering, rear brakes/bearings/splash guards will probably be my first job....
Almost forgot, a few weekends ago I whipped the interior out to finally wire my electric Recaros in. First up, I connected them both to a 12v feed and just as expected they didn't budge, many years of crap had gunged the motors and switches so stripped both seats down and cleaned/lubricated everything and to my delight both sides moved smoothly and strong up and down so happy with that. Knocked up a quick loom and as the carpets were out anyway gave the floor pans a good clean and wet vac'd the carpets, they looked alright before but after a couple of litres of black tar water came out they looked nice and fresh:
And finally, while the OEM teardrops are in storage I still plan on getting them refurbed should I ever want to go back to factory original later on, problem was that like many of them the bolt holes for the caps had gone bad after years of screwing/unscrewing and corrosion, so all 4 caps where held in by a different sized bolt and were wobbly as anything. Working for a company with an engineering shop downstairs has its advantages, so one day I took them to work and set up the pillar drill to open the holes to the next size up, then tapped a new thread in each and fitted a stainless steel thread insert and matching bolt so all 4 caps are held perfectly now!
