i'll run this ATF for 100 miles and do a couple of pints of water through the engine, drop the oil, leave the old oil filter on then top up with the second litre of ATF and cheapo crap oil. If I run that for another 100 miles or so then change the oil filter and put the expensive oil in I reckon. New oil is fully synthetic carlube stuff from ECP
kinell mate... you can get carlube fullysynth at makro for 10/5L im looking to try fuchs from GSF soon, no idea on price tho
Long version - http://www.clubgti.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8972 Short version - sucking water into your engine using a vacuum line to get the carbon out of the combustion chambers.
tried this 3 times now and iv had no luck with the noisy buggers so im going to to take the plunge and get some new tappets phoned up vw derby today, and even with discount (+vat) they work out at something like 17 each! thank god mines only an 8v! has anyone experiences of other brands? esp febi from avs? im just not paying that for them
BB components were selling a set of 8 hydro tappetts for 48 on Ebay a while ago. Might be worth doing a search although I don't know what the quality is like
I've recently done the ATF trick on my 144k ABF using new oil and an OE filter + 0.7litre ATF. I was amazed at the amount of crud that came out I've still kept it so I might reuse it in another car. You could try reconditioning your tappets using the following guide. Might save yourself some . http://www.clubgti.com/forum/showthread.php?t=76499
I was convinced you were taking the p1ss at first.... now that's a new one! Combined with the ATF trick... You probably have some kitchen method for fixing worn synchros too Cheers mate! I just have to try that now.
You should see my kitchen... You have to navigate your way round stuff to get to the sink. I'm so used to it now I can do the drunk's two-step in the dark when I'm hammered and still get there. I dropped a glass on the floor and it broke - solution? Don't brush it up, just put a big cardboard box on top of all the broken glass so you can't stand on it. It's been like that for 2 years now, I should buy a brush.
i did read some of this but its just too flippin long,as anyone done this to a k.r i just wanna try it but scared of getting water in the brake servo or fei
Yes, I've done it to a good few, and so have lots of others. Grab a vacuum hose from the back of the throttle body and dunk it!
I just buy the cheapest, scummiest stuff I can find - the higher "quality" the oil, the less detergents it has in it, but more dispersants. Need to do it myself to the TDi Pishrat, but it's wet and cold and my garage is full of generators and junk...
