01177 fault, need help

i am getting the fault codes 01177 (engine control unit)


and 37-10 (faulty intermitant)


can anyone explain these or how they can be fixed?

 

what car / year??

bit of a stab in the dark from the mk 4 list 01177 - Replace Motronic Engine Control Module (ECM) -J220

that the engine ECU, with not much info on those codes but could be an internal check sum error, does car drive ok??

 

its a 2000 mk4 golf. well the car goes fine ecept lately the petrol consumption has become very poor
