020 box flange clips

    i got an 020 box that i have done the flange seals on and having got the flanges off changed the seals and gone to put the flanges back on i can't get the damn clips on, any hints or tips on how to get the clips on?.

    The cups are on a spring so you'll need to compress it down first.
    You can buy a tool or you can use a 10mm bolt and a piece of plate.
    Drill a hole in the plate(plate size about 4" long 1" wide and about 1/4" thick for best results), with an M10 clearence hole in the middle. Put the bolt through the hole then screw it into the diff, pulling the cup down. Then using a circlip pliers(or for best results on this type of clip is a long nose pliers with the ends ground down) put on the circlip.

    so basically having done the seals and got the flanges back in place, i need to modify some pliers to get the clip on, i feel a session with the angle grinder coming on[}:)]

    anyone know of any tool for getting this done as normal circlip pliers are no good

    Come one now, get down B and Q, by some 1 long nose pliers, grind the ends down thin on the outer sides and you've got the tool. Honestly, it's that easy!

    long nose pliers work the wrong way need to spread the clip not squish it

    I know, you just push them apart to open it. It can be done with 1 hand. Honestly I know what I'm talking about, I've done 1 or 2 of these.

    You could use a long nose reverse pliers, I have one here too. I'll get a pic by tomorrow.

    and you reckon i can get them in b&q?

    Not mine but grind a normal pair of long nose flat to look like the end of these:

    I use an old pair of these with the ends bent striaght and ground flat:

    modified halfords circlip pliers = success!
    about dam time!, lol
    and just for the fun of it i slapped a coat of paint on the gearbox
