   my car is making bad grinding/whining noises in 5th
   
   i have been looking at 020 gearboxes and i have noticed that mine doesnt have the 5th gear spring/plunger (highlighted in blue)
   
   
   
   could this be the reason my car is making funny noises in 5th?

   later cars did away with this and used a special detent bolt instead:

   if its makign noise in 5th check oil levels asap, 5th is first to be starved when oil level drops
