well the cog is ok i made a clip to hold the gog to the cable and since i put it back in there is oil weeping but yet the gog is seated perfect so i tried it again this time pulling the seal up the cable and fitting in the cable and gog and then reseated the seal but it still seams to be weeping could the seal be spread out

Have you got a part number for this R.J, as im sure this is why my 020 didn't last!

I seem to remember the big rubber seal on the end of the speedo was breaking up. This is probably why the 020 had a sudden death.

    I had the same problem.

I used a sealant recommended for the half moon cam cover gasket. Carefully put a small bead around the casing hole indent and dropped the little metal bucket that supports the gear and the cable outer back in, wiped the excess off and its now oil drip free.

I suspect sealant is the long term answer as the seal is no longer available from VW, unless anyone knows of other suppliers who do it? Does it come on a new speedo cable?

Won't an 02k seal sit in the same place ?
If it's pushing that much out of there, check the breather on the top of the box isn't blocked.

Do you know what the part number is?

Car is in the garage today and I've ask e them to have a look as when I got the car out of my garage this morning there was a pool of oil and fresh oil around the speedo connection. Never had a problem before

Just pulled an 02k speedo drive, they just use an O ring, which could possibly work for the 020
