    Hi all,

I have a 1.8T BAM engine conversion and a 02a gearbox in my corrado. I was looking in fitting a 02j gear linkage to the gearbox and it seems to be different.

Is there a special way of fitting this or do I need to modify it in anyway.

Please anyone can advise help on this will be a big help and if anyone has any pics will be great as well.

    Thanks

    Bobby

There is 1mm difference in the bottom spigot diameter. 02J is bigger. They are not interchangeablce unless you drain the oil out , drop the two 13mm bolts out of the bottom and change the oval shaped lower mount as well

What do you mean by the oval mount, are you talking about the one on the gearlever side in the cabin?

At the bottom of the tower on the lower face of the box is the oval flange. This is paired in size with the tower. You will get very oily if you remove it with the oil in.
Havent done one in situ, but Ive just built two 02a/j combos, so I think I understand your issue.

I must sound stupid here, sorry if I do mate.

    I am still confused.

Basically I have the tower and cables of a 02j and a 02a gearbox with the o2a linkage on the box.

So will I need a 02j linkage on the gearbox side in order to fit all this?

Sorry, its my mistake, when you said tower I thought you meant the other end, at the box.
    Mine uses a 02a tower/cables onto an 02j box.
Havent tried an o2j tower, although my gearchange is so poor, I would if I could

    to fit a 02J tower

you need the gear selector - the cables and the tower.
the part which drops of is on the bottom, its normally a big VW stamped oval shape plug and has two bolts through it.
Some need them changed others don't.

02J gear selector fits 02J Shifter Tower
02A gear selector Fits 02A shift tower

they dont iirc work with each other.

Bottom bit doesn't always need to be changed. Depends on the box you have.

Looking down on the top of the gearbox, you'll see a small plaque just underneath the tower.
