took the box off my engine today, as part of the engine swap i removed the flywheel and was planning to get it lightened

i'm not sure if it's already been done as i was expecting it to look similar to the bulky G60 flywheel that was shown being lightened in the august issue of the golf mag, this one seems to be about half way between the std one in the mag and the lightened end result

    heres some pics:

is this mormal for a 16v 02A flywheel and it's only the G60 one thats bulkier to start with?

any idea how much a std one should weigh?

    cheers

    steve

Thats a lot different to both my 02A glywheels - they normally have a huge bulge on the back of them, where yours is flat.

can the old bolts be reused on the new engine or are they stretch bolts that need replacing?

they're stretch bolts, you'll need to replace them. Sachs clutch kits come with a set.

Defintely replace the bolts - no question. They cause havoc if they come off.

Have you weighed it at all Steve?

using a set of highly accurate boots bathroom scales i weighed the flywheel today, came in at 'about' 8.5 Kgs :)

Also turns out its a passat flywheel that takes a 215mm clutch.

Hmmm, read the clutch post also.

    Passat flywheels.... [:s]

My guess is that it is lighter - around 6kg is my estimate (from limited experience of 02A flywheels) with the amount of metal that has disappeared. I believe they're around 8.5kg standard - 228mm items that is, though.

No matter - someone's had a good go at taking weight off it.

Don't suppose you have the part no from it do you? - I can't quite read from the photo.

    Cheers,
    Chris

Hi chris, I put the flywheel back on the car before taking the part number and now it cant be read, [:^(]

ETKA lists 2 part numbers for the 215mm flywheel if thats any help:

    068 105 269 F and #068 105 269 FX

Mart, maybe i'll have some more taken off when the box get re-built ;) , do you do flywheels as well?
