The speedo sensor in the 02a is electronic and mk2 dash is cable driven, does anybody know if I can use my clocks and what speedo cable i need if i take out the electical sender? G60 maybe considering mk2 clocks but 02a?
You can replace the sender with a mechanial alternative. It screws in like the original. There is also a cable compatible wit your clocks that screws to the sender. I think there is a thread with the part nos in if you use the search.
Quite possibly given the similarities between the 'boxes, but I can't be sure - I've only fitted a O2A into a mk2.
I used an early Corrado 16v speedo cable for my 02a conversion...... worked with no problems whatsoever!
Damo, did the speedo cable require an additional sender to be screwed into the box, or did it screw directly onto the gearbox aperture where the sender/drive gear would normally fit?
Looked through the other thread on this and somebody said that they got a mk2 1.3 speedo cable for 6, checked gsf and they want 17.50 plus vat[:^(] . Damn car just wants to bleed me dry! Be awesome whens its done though!
It came with the gearbox and i didnt undo it or anything tbh..... from the look of it though it seems to just fit directly in to the gearbox in the same way as the MK2 one does...
When i ran the 02A 16v and VR6 gearbox in my Mk2 there was a replacement speedo sender/drive gear. Then the cable screwed onto that. The reason i ask really to make sure people end up with everything they need.
I'll see if i can get a clear pic of it so everyone can see what it looks like.... Ive heard from somewhere else (E38 forum i think) that all you need is a very early corrado cable too so im pretty certain that nothing else is needed other than the cable....
The gearbox I installed was a CDA O2A - it came with the electical sender, which I unscrewed, and replaced directly with the 1.3 cable. A friend did exactly the same with a Corrado G60 'box he used for a 16vG60 conversion into a mk2. I'd be willing to suggest all you'll need is the cable... well certainly on an O2A.
I couldn't get an early corrado cable as vw ones are now obsolete and g+s don't do them. I've used a 1988 passat 16v cable that screws straight on to the thread that the electronic sender was screwed onto.
Did you get a new cable Kev? PN? I'm keeping my 16v dash/clocks with my VR swap, will need a suitable cable Going to do the resistor trick for the rev counter as Deako did on one of his many ex MK2s Just need to speak to Vince @ Stealth about the values and stuff...
1k resistors. Taken from 2 feeds on the top of the little plastic clip over the coilpack. In-line on both wires, then join them back together after the resistor! 1 of the feeds is earth i think. So i used the 2 outer feeds off the coilpack closest to the front of the car.
Gary I used a cable from a 1988 rhd passat 16v pn 358 957 803A This had to be back ordered from germany and took a few weeks.
Did you get it from GSF Sam? btw... did the sump and vernier arrive - I left the shipping in the capable hands of the GVK motorsport export department* while I was away last week. (my Mum)*
Yea cable is from gsf, pricy tho at 14 or so if i can remember correctly Pully and sump arrived safely, cheers gaz
