02A Quaife ATB... and 02J box.

I have an 02A g'box from a late 16v Seat Ibiza, but on dismantling to fit the 02A diff ordered, find its a bitza box and actually 02J in oprigin on some internals.

    02A? 02J?

New boxed 02A Quaife ATB diff needs a good home or swap with Quaife or 02J version.

Anyone come across this? Weird mix of parts in the same gearbox?

Bill, with the amount of gearbox luck you have been having, plus your advancing years, maybe its time for an auto!

I've done it but not tested it yet.
I have an 02A quaife I bought years ago. Last year I was given a Mk3 16v box It all goes together fine but you need to use early 02A output flanges and put 02a seals into the casing rather than use the green cups and 02J seals which stick out.
Mine is full of oil and is not leaking but I won't be driving it for some time yet.

Also I found another MK3 16v box with a quaife diff in a scrappy's over easter. Cost me 145 :p

Looks like I am in need of a pair of 02A output flanges..

blummin box is stamped 02A, but diff casing is 02C - wtf! and runs 02J diff and output shafts..
no wonder i'm confused.. and for good measure Fecking Quaife w4nkers wont take the diff back, but only credit which is pointless as there are already several 02J diffs in stock.. dont want another one.

What a great company quaife are.. NOT!
    Anyone?

Exactly what I thought when I opened it up.

Also I've read on the US forums if you have a peloquin they will exchange 02A for 02J if it's unused

Decent companies would.. however this is quaife [:x]
Its boxed and unused, only arrived yesterday.
JBS are doing the build up and have plenty of 02J quaife diffs in stock, but despite them having lots of them (good customer) quaife wont exchange apparently.

I'm sure 02J boxes have parts in them which are still stamped 02A. I've seen in on parts diags, works kit car manuals, ETKA etc.

Quaife are shocking - I bought two ATBs off them a while back (020 8V and 020 16V) with the caveat that one was coming back when I'd made my mind up which I was using. When I took it back (which was after a time delay of 4+ months, although I'd spoken to them in the meanwhile) they were really difficult and took a 10% charge off. Err, *hello* you've had 600 in the bank earning interest or assisting cashflow for a few months. Who's is that?

Something to do with cake and eating it...

Have I mentioned before thatI HATE QUAIFE

Completely arrogant company who have ZERO clue about customer service and make very pooe gearboxes. Sadly the ATB diff's are good, but given the opportunity I would buy Peloquin any day in preference.

Quaife are one company I will NEVER deal with again.

Amazing they have so little competition from the likes of Drenth etc... Quaife in proper racing is not a product serious racers use as their quality, engineering and service is abysmal.

Sorry.. Rant mode off now. [:$]

Anyone know of any broken atb's???
The waranty is supposed to be lifetime?

I know if you break a peloquin they send one out as soon as you return the old one. No questions.

Bill. How much power did you have when you broke your quaife gears?
I'm going to be running about 320-330@wheels.

I may buy an ap tuning gearkit from the states once they've been tested.

not broken quaife gears.. watch out for diff bearings on rhs.. sh1te design on helix angle which causes too much sideload on diff bearing with a torquey motor and grippy tyres. it will collapse and crownwheel damage will occur (chipped cracked and broken teeth). mines fine now and has new crownwheel/pinion and bearings. gears are ok and strong (agricultural)

I run similar power at the wheels myself with 340lbft torque currently
